The 6th Chinese Zodiac Sign is Snake. This drawing is inspired by a Chinese legend called Legend of the White Snake (白蛇传). Bai Suzhen and her sworn sister Xiao Qing turn to snakes after drinking realgar wine. To reflect the feminine characters, the Chinese traditional oil paper umbrellas with floral designs are added into the drawing. This type of umbrella design was popular and beloved by Chinese ladies. The Snake also holds a hairpin with magnolia flower. The plants in this drawing represent the concept of Four Gentlemen in Chinese art, which are plum blossoms, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemums.
